Homestream lets you hear your school’s radio announcers synced to the game you’re watching on TV. This policy explains what information we collect when you use our app and website, why we collect it, and the choices you have.
This Privacy Policy applies to the Homestream mobile application and the website at homestream.app (together, the “Service”), operated by HSII, Inc., a Delaware corporation, d/b/a Homestream (“Homestream,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). By using the Service, you agree to the practices described here.
01 Information we collect
Information you give us
When you create an account, we collect your name and email address. When you buy a subscription or a single-game pass, your payment is processed by Apple, Google, or our payment processor – we receive confirmation of your purchase and your subscription status, but we do not receive or store your full payment card number. You may also choose a favorite team or school, which we store so the app can personalize your experience across devices. We also collect information you provide when you contact us for support.
Information we collect automatically
When you use the Service, we automatically collect:
- Usage data, such as which games you sync to, when you start and stop listening, how long you listen, and which features you use.
- Device information, such as device type, operating system, app version, and a device identifier.
- Approximate location derived from your device or network, used to understand the geographic reach of our audience and to apply territorial and blackout restrictions. We do not collect precise GPS geolocation without your permission.
- Diagnostic and crash data that helps us fix problems and improve reliability.
How the sync works
To align radio audio with your live TV broadcast, the app reads on-screen game information (such as the scoreboard) on your device and uses real-time game data from our data providers. This processing happens to deliver the core function of the Service. We do not use your camera or screen to collect anything beyond what is needed to detect game state.
02Categories of personal information
For purposes of U.S. state privacy laws, in the past 12 months we have collected the following categories of personal information, from you directly and through automated means: identifiers (such as name, email, and device identifiers), customer records (such as account and purchase information), commercial information (such as passes purchased and listening activity), internet or network activity (such as usage and diagnostic data), approximate location, and inferences (such as the schools or teams you follow). We use this information for the business and commercial purposes described in Section 03, and we may disclose each category to the recipients described in Section 04.03How we use your information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, operate, and improve the Service, including the audio-to-video sync.
- Process your purchases and manage your subscriptions.
- Apply territorial, blackout, and other access restrictions required by our licenses.
- Communicate with you about your account, updates, and support requests.
- Understand how fans use the Service so we can make it better, including producing audience reporting for our partners.
- Protect against fraud, abuse, and security risks, and enforce our Terms.
- Comply with legal obligations.
04How we share information
Sharing with schools and partners. A core part of Homestream is connecting fans with their schools and helping those schools, their rights holders, and their brand and advertising partners understand and engage their audience. We may share information with our school partners, their multimedia rights holders, and their brand and advertising partners, including in a form that identifies you. This may include your name and email address, your account and usage information, the schools or teams you follow, and your approximate location. They may use this information for their own purposes, including marketing and communications about their programs, products, and services.
We also share information with:
- Service providers who run parts of the Service on our behalf, such as cloud hosting, analytics, authentication, and payment processing. This includes Google Firebase and Google Analytics, which we use to measure usage and produce the reporting described above.
- App stores and payment processors to complete and manage your purchases.
- Legal and safety recipients when we believe disclosure is required by law, or necessary to protect the rights, safety, or property of Homestream, our users, or others.
- A successor in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, subject to this policy.
We may also share information that has been aggregated or de-identified so that it no longer reasonably identifies you.
05Sale or sharing of personal information
Some of the sharing described above with our school partners, rights holders, and their brand and advertising partners may be considered a “sale” or “sharing” of personal information, or processing for “targeted advertising,” under certain state privacy laws, even when no money changes hands. Depending on where you live, you have the right to opt out.
To opt out, contact us at
steve@homestream.app. Where required by law, we honor browser-based opt-out preference signals such as the Global Privacy Control (GPC). We do not knowingly sell or share, or use for targeted advertising, the personal information of anyone we know to be under 18 years old.
06Analytics, cookies, and tracking technologies
We use Google Firebase and Google Analytics, along with cookies, SDKs, and similar technologies, to collect usage and device information so we can understand engagement, improve the product, and produce the audience reporting we provide to our partners (see Section 04). You can limit some collection through your device or browser settings, including advertising-identifier and location controls. Because there is no common standard, we do not currently respond to browser “Do Not Track” signals, but we honor recognized opt-out preference signals as described in Section 05.07Your choices and rights
You can:
- Access or update your account information in the app.
- Manage or cancel subscriptions through your Apple or Google account.
- Control location and tracking permissions in your device settings.
- Opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of your personal information as described in Section 05.
- Request access to, a copy of, correction of, or deletion of your personal information by contacting us.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), other U.S. state privacy laws (including in Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, and others), or, for users in the European Economic Area and the UK, the GDPR – including the right to data portability and the right to appeal a decision on your request. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.
To exercise any right, contact us at
steve@homestream.app. To protect your information, we will take reasonable steps to verify your identity before acting on a request, typically by confirming the email address associated with your account, and we may decline requests we cannot verify. You may use an authorized agent to submit a request on your behalf with proof of authorization. California residents may also request information about disclosures for third-party direct marketing under California’s “Shine the Light” law.
08Data retention
We keep personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, and afterward as needed to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. The period depends on the type of information and why we hold it. Aggregated and de-identified data may be kept indefinitely.09Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures to protect your information. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, and you use the Service and provide information at your own risk.10Where your information is processed
Homestream is based in the United States, and we process and store information in the United States. If you access the Service from outside the United States, you understand that your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in your location. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for international transfers.11Children’s privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. We do not knowingly sell or share, or use for targeted advertising, the personal information of anyone we know to be under 18. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.12Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above, and for material changes we will provide additional notice through the Service. Your continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.13Contact us
